Updates from the Village Council
April 6, 2026
Council is pleased to announce that Tammy MacSymetz has accepted the position of Administrator for the Village of Shell Lake. Council would like to welcome Tammy and is looking forward to working together. Tammy’s hours in the office are temporary at this point. We will update you when regular hours in place so that you can drop in to the Village office to say Hi. In the meantime Mayor Wendy is volunteering part-time in covering the general office duties.
The 2026 Assessment Roll is now open for inspection. If there is a change in your property assessment for 2026 an assessment notice would have been mailed out to you. Only properties that experienced a change will receive a notice. If you have any questions in regards to your assessed value please contact www.sama.sk.ca for further information. Assessment Roll closes on April 30, 2026.
Preliminary Budget meetings have started for 2026. Council has been reviewing the 2025 figures for expenses and revenues, the Village user fees, which the majority have not been adjusted since 2017, costs of the major maintenance project at the lagoon truck haul pond, and costs associated with the Community Planner. In considering all these factors, it is becoming evident that Council will not be able to hold the property taxes at the current level. Just the ongoing fuel price increase, is such an unknown factor.
Our Community Planner and his team(Casa Boldt) are hard at work gathering information for our future documents. Thank you to everyone that too the time to complete the questionnaire. It sounds like they had a good response.
The Village Office will be reviewing and updating the animal license files in 2026. If you have not already done so, please update your pet license information and fee. A general letter will be going out to pet owners that we have on file from past years to assist in updating the Village files.
**Just a friendly reminder that all dogs are to be on leash/and or restrained on their owner’s property. As the snow melts the evidence is visible that not all dogs are staying home. Please cleanup after your pets. The Village office has received concerns in regards to pets running loose and leaving unwanted “presents”. Thank you for your help in addressing this issue.
**Please ensure that your garbage is contained in a proper receptacle for Tuesday garbage day. The ravens are helping themselves to the garbage bags left out in advance of collection day, which is creating quite a mess.
.
Tax Enforcement for the 2025 outstanding taxes has now started as outlined in The Tax Enforcement Act.
.
After Hours Emergency: Please contact Greg Ardagh @306-883-8051
**ALL DOG and CAT licenses are $10.00/pet/year. This assists in identifying your pet, if your pet takes a walk without you and forgets where home is. We are in the process of reviewing and updating our records on current pet licenses issued
**BUSINESS LICENCES- All require renewal – $100. each/year
** GARBAGE PICKUP – Limit is 3 bags and not more than 30 lbs./BAG. OVERWEIGHT BAGS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. Jim appreciates you taking the time to clear a path to your garbage receptacle and says THANKS!
